Here's what happens when you have had two blizzards one top of one another for a total of over 45 inches of snow and have been snowbound for one too many days...
You decide that you can't take another day in your gray bedroom and that you need to brighten it up; that you still love Imperial Trellis but do not want to commit to wallpaper, so you...
100 hours later, you begin to question your decision...

This is such a fabulouse idea!! I can't wait to see it completed!
No freanking WAY. You made the stencil? Just the thought of that sends me into a tailspin. It looks incredible--don't give up!
I meant freaking. GOD.
All I can say is...WOW! I wish I had the motivation to make the stencil, let alone the painstaking detail to use it.
insane. I installed Imperial trellis wallpaper myself, and thought I was going to be blind by the time I finished. This is incredible.
I love, love, love it. Please show the finished product asap. MB
Looking forward to the finished product~ you are so ambitious/crazy! I would have found a fireplace, a blanket and a good book!
You are totally my hero, with extra points for the tone on tone. Keep going.
I feel your boredom! You did an incredible job. I papered a room in a Thibaut trellis pattern and thought I'd slash my wrists trying to match the patterns.
AMAZING!!!!! How did you make that stencil? Did you have some of the wallpaper to trace? Such an AMBITIOUS project...with gorgeous results! Do spill your secrets & your tips...I know there are others of us out here equally crazy enough to try this same thing!!! Thank you!!!
I'm incredibly impressed...you must be taking some really good drugs!
I'm with SGM, no freaking way. That is absolutely unbelievable -- remarkable idea + execution. I'm coveting your energy and patience. Fabulous.
Dude. You're a badass.
That is absolutely beautiful, I can't believe you made that !
I am so impressed and tired for you that I do not know what else to say. I am a little obsessed with the Imperial Trellis and I have decided to be a bit bold and have drapes made for my breakfast area. I figure this will really wake me up in the morning to start the day with a smile on my face.
BTW I think your blog is pretty cool:)
You are killing me - this is so clever but also full of darn determination. Not an easy task but well worth it. Your wall is incredible, so very impressed. Blown-away that you could even whip out a stencil, thank the good Lord for back to back snow storms. WoW!!
WOW...I thought my DIY office was impressive...yours is definitely IMPRESSIVE!

Whew. Well, one week later and I am still not done. With one wall. I am done with the initial stenciling but now I have to touch up all the little marks that held the stencil together if that makes sense.
I also still have to do one wall in the sitting area. So new pictures will be awhile. I need a new headboard, too. I will solicit ideas in a post shortly.
Thanks for comments. Btw, bb8: the reason I never moved on from this idea was because of your wall.
And Jen, your office looks great!
Vicki H: Yes, I did have a small sample of the paper. I will do a post later on the how-to. I know most everyone is over I.T. but I knew I wouldn't be happy until I had it. I'm pretty much over it now. :-)
WOW - impressive...madness...but impressive
Fab fab fab... over the top fab. I wonder when it's going to snow again. Can't wait to see what you do next, cause this project is going to be hard to top.
All I can say it luv it!

Okay, you will hear this over and over again but I am going to add to it - this is AMAZING. And your decision to go tone on tone will keep I.T. looking fresh long beyond when everyone is 'over it'.
Well, while you were stenciling I was doing my nails, calling friends who didn't have any snow, eating through a pound of Lindt chocolates, washing my hair, washing dishes, washing my bra, dusting, you know, the important things that you do just before you seriously consider moving to Tucson Arizona where they have 360 days of sun EVERY FRIGGING YEAR!!! Love your stencil. Ann
Oh, that's SO weird! I did the same thing before I went to work today. But didn't like the look as much as I thought so I just went over it with a Sistine Chapel Trompe-l'œil instead. What? Oh, I know! I wasn't sure it would work either but the head of my ward said it shouldn't be a problem sticking to the padded walls. ;)
M'dear, you may be crazy to have taken on such a project but my good golly gracious the results are nothing short of SPECTACULAR! I. DIE! Swooning from Seattle! Oy veh!
I love it! How did you make the stencil?
no. you. didn't.
can i make out with you?
i wouldn't even begin to know how to make a stencil let alone line it up on a fucking wall 40,000 times.
In a word: Brilliant. Yes, you ARE. Loving this, so glad I found you (via MFAMB), can't wait to see the final result, yada yada, and all that other kissie-face stuff.
I'm sold!
OK... while that might have taken hours upon hours to finish... it looks UH-MAZING!!!!! :) You have a gorgeous blog, by the way! xoxox Holly
This seriously blows my mind. And don't blame it on the snow. I have been snowed in for what feels like an eternity and the most productive thing I have done is read a bazillion magazines and eat a bazillion cookies. This is all you. And ridiculously good.
Wow. Very. Impressive. I know you must be over it, but keep fighting the good fight so we can gush over the reveal. It will be worth it...one day!
wow i can't wait to see the finished product! what a beauty!
Beautiful! I love that it is the opalescent paint too. What a great sheen.
i saw this on mfamb and had to see it to believe it. so happy this insane project led me to your blog and can't wait to see the finished product — maybe next winter?!
Looks gorgeous! It's just like the Kelly Wearstler trellis wallcovering I just had delivered last week for my office! Great job!
FYI - Seriously need to mass market your stencil. I would buy it hands down. : D
Please sell your stencil. Sell it to me!
And sell me some little elves to come do it!
love, love, love!
Speechless (in a very good way!!)
I can imagine you would question yourself and your sanity half way through but... and it is a big but... How wonderful the minute will be when you are done, like winning a gold metal...(watching to much olympics) Your room will have the best walls in the world... believe and keep going !
Absolutely gorgeous! I wish I had your talent and your patience!!!
A-Mazing. Seriously, I love it. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE STENCIL DIY. Yipee. Looking forward to a new project.
xo
Hello, are you serious!!!!? I am blown away!!! (Just visiting for the first time and I have already scrolled up and down several times to figure out how you actually did it). I can't draw to save my life so to say that I am impressed is an understatement. Wall paper companies - move over! xx, Monika
It looks fantastic! I have been wanting to do this idea for months! I was just too scared to commit. I'm one of those crazy types that takes on a project too big for herself all the time...and then I get all 3-year-old and say "I can do it by myself!!!" and don't take on anyone's offer of help. I think you've inspired me.
Just a question, did you buy the plain stencil at just a random craft store like Michael's or something? Just curious if it needs to be ordered online or if it can be found usually locally.
I hope mine turns out awesome like yours!
Wow, that's fabulous, I've been thinking of stenciling my bathroom with the same pattern. I searched and couldn't a premade stencil and I was very hesitant to make one and try it myself. Your wall looks great and even though it took a long time the results are worth it. Now if you could make stencils and sell them on etsy and I'll buy one. :)
Turned out so nicely. The wall and room! Kudos for your endurance.
Glad I found your blog.
You sick, sick woman! I like this so much I hope to do it in my bedroom. Lemme runout for a couple of cases of Nutella. I bow to you, creative and obcessive nut. And I'm jealous.
