I love the internets. A little bird from Bravo (thanks, Sade!) read about my fixation with Denis Leary and let me know that he is appearing on Inside the Actors Studio with James Lipton tonight at 7.
I was going to photoshop Denis Leary's head on this to amuse us:
But I didn't have time. So you'll just have to use your imaginations.
Now, who's old enough to remember the shock and awe this centerfold caused?

Memory of my mom and neighbor outside in plaid shorts fawning over it..and my mom claiming she was way sexier than Sally Field. My neighbor Nannette agreed.
Sad to say but poor Burt doesn't look that good anymore. No doubt that is why the slogan "If you've got it flaunt it" came about.
Although handsome ... my head has never been carried away for hairy men.
I'm 38 but I do remember it being a big deal and seeing it plaster around. That picture is why I think men with some chest hair is sexy (Not gorilla hair- manly hair). I can't stand these men who wax everything off like a girl now. Blech.
omg.. no you didn't!
Yes, he's tres hairy. Trop hairy pour moi.
But, yes townhouse, I agree. Wax much? Uh, no.
umama: oh, yes I did.
I do remember when this hit the newsstands!
Leslie
ah gag me with a spoon
one imagines he might have a vagina under that hairy beefy arm... oock!
Which one is the bear rug?
OMG - we remember this! It's just as bad now as it was then.
I'm not quite old enough to remember the original, but I do recall the David Hasselhoff one that came out right around the beginning of Baywatch, I think. Does anybody else remember that one?
omg - I so remember that!!!!!!
Nikki and hmstrjam each get a gold star for making me laugh out loud. :-)
I was a kid when this came out but I remember peeking at it at Walgreen's or something because my mom wouldn't let me see it. And I think my reaction was, "ewww."
And btw, g., your mom was hotter than Sally Field.
Eeew. Naked old man. Naked old man.
My eyes are burning.
Me!
Goooood grief, that pic scarred me. I had no idea that white guys had so much hair all over their bodies and it probably had a lot of influence on my dating choices.
What happend to Burt :(
Love your Edie Beale pictures! Just watched Grey gardens (the docu) last night and it made me somewhat sad because i think i am gonna end up like that...kinda crazy with 60 cats and breeding racoons on the attic.
Oh, how funny...yes, I do remember the hirsute Burt sprawled out for all to see! I believe this was during the Loni Anderson era for him?
I DO remember this. And sneaking out with my middle school church camp bunkmates to buy Playgirl magazine.
C'mon... Burt looks great here. And I love love love the hair. I don't like hairless boys. I like MEN. I don't think Don Draper waxes his chest...
Hilarious... and furry.
I have laughed and laughed reading all of these posts. It has made my day (which thus far has been composed of cleaning the house.) Thank you ... every one of you.
It is quite obvious that there is a split between all of our likes or fantasies about what we think is appealing and/or manly. (Hair or no hair ... this is the question.) I wonder if women would be just as split concerning hair on their men's head ... locks or no locks (baldies) ... this is the question. Of course, I hear that bald is sexy according to some females. But then there are those of us who still prefer to have something to run our fingers through. Isn't it wonderful to have such diversity among us ... else we would all be attracted to the same man. Thanks again for all the laughs.
OMG, my mom had a copy of the Cosmo this was in stashed under the bathroom cabinet and I think it scarred me for life!!!
Thanks for reopening the wounds...
Hairy manly MEN
Big yes.
I remember my Mother sleeping with it under her pillow!
I have an 80's party to go to and you may just be the one to turn to for some inspiration. If I were Burt, I would wear those glasses too. Hide me people - from myself.
pve
Ha! Pve - you'll be a decade early for the party. It was from the early 70s. You should go as Madonna from the Material Girl phase!! And then I want pictures!
Teaorwine - Sally Field, girl! As a (straight, male) friend of my daughter said, "Nobody beats the Bandit."
It wasn't in Cosmo it was in Playgirl. I remember driving to the drugstore to buy it - I was in college. The Burt isn't my personal cup of tea, but it was an idea whose day had come. Thanks, HG for the memories.
Hello from Canada, Gorgeous, I am stunned. I don't ever remember him being this HAIRY way back when. Isn't that odd?
It always depends how talented they are when it comes to a roll in the hay. Let's not kid ourselves. We are so forgiving.
Greetings Liberty Post.
I do. I remember being rather repulsed. Now I'm a little like, "How you doin'?"
*wink*
LOL! I was a kid at the time, but I do remember being away at Indian Maidens(!) snow camp with my mother when this came out. All the moms were passing it around the cabin and hooting and cackling...
I is.
and I do.
It might not seem much now but I remember it being a big deal at a time when we as women didn't have the eye candy around that we have now. I also love me some Dennis Leary... saw him on John Stewart recently and he as sexy as ever.
Yikes, one handsome and hairy man you got there!
