Most of my all-time favorite books are on the list. "To Kill a Mockingbird" was my first favorite novel.
The one I have never understood is "The Giving Tree." How can Shel Silverstein be banned? Especially that book. But as I understand it, it has been thought sexist, as well as critical of the foresting industry and undermining parental authority.
Too many small-minded people have been in charge for too long.
Strictly controlling your citizens' access to ideas and facts that may be ugly, upsetting, controversial, unflattering to the government or (shudder) encouraging of Teh Sex is just looking out for their best interests. Just ask China and North Korea.

How ridiculous to think that any of those books were (are???!) banned!
1984 seems an appropriate choice for a favorite. Also Gulliver's Travels.

The small-minded people in charge understand all too well the power group-hate holds.

Good choice either way.
